On October 13, 2023, Hezbollah was the first group outside occupied historic Palestine that decided to side with Hamas by saying it was fully prepared to join Hamas in their resistance against the occupying belligerent. It is understandable when looking at Hezbollah's history, which is similar to Hamas, as it emerged in 1981 because of the Israeli occupation in Southern Lebanon. Then, there is the fact that the Israelis have always sought ways to evade their obligations toward a conditional accord that Lebanon was forced to sign in 2000 and that the Americans and the Israelis sold as a "peace accord." On October 1, 2024, the Israelis invaded Lebanon to brazenly escalate the pager cyber-attack they carried out in the last week of the previous month. It would mark their sixth invasion of Lebanon since 1978. There was a series of border clashes before the invasion. However, on July 23, 2024, the BBC -normally in favor of the Israelis- reported that over 83% of all the attacks conducted between the Israelis and Hezbollah since October 7th have been by the Israelis themselves. We also haven't forgotten the so-called tree incident on the UNIFIL-controlled border side, the Israeli attack on an Indonesian UNIFIL patrol, and the bumper pushing of a UNIFIL vehicle while being illegal inside the UN zone, all happened more than a decade ago. So, the Israeli attacks on UNIFIL in November 2024 weren't the first. |
